Micky Flanagan

28 Feb

Greetings all. Todays comedic treat is from long haired genuine Cockerney Micky Flanagan. Micky’s been doing this comedy lark since 1996 but has seen a massive increase in his popularity over the last 18 months, having appeared on the fast-track to fame that is Michael Mcintyre’s comedy roadshow on the BBC

As a result of that little spot, most of his upcoming tour has sold out but there might still be some tickets left here

If you can’t manage to get tickets, either replay the clip below several times to give the impression of a full length dvd or you can buy his actual full length dvd here – unfortunately not until November. Why it’s advertised so bloody early is anyones guess.

Enjoy peeps.

Nathan Caton

27 Feb

Todays bit of standup is from the UK in the form of the award winning Nathan Caton.

In case you were wondering which award he’s won- as it’s easy to just say you’re an award winning comedian then, years down the line people find out you were referring to your 25m swimming certificate – Nathan won “Chortle Student Comedian of the year” in 2005.

Interesting fact – he’s also one of the writers on Rastamouse

Mitch Hedburg

26 Feb

I thought for the first post I’d kick off with an absolute legend and also not go down the immediately obvious route of picking someone already well known to the world – Mitch Hedburg, who unfortunately for both him and the comedy world at large, died of a drug overdose in 2005 and would surely have become a massive star by now, had this not have happened.

This clip is from the David Letterman show two years before his death, bizarrely being hosted by Elvis Costello. That’s the letterman show he’s hosting, not his death. Just felt I needed to point that out.

A new day, a new dawn, etc.

Hello anyone and all – may I extend the warmest of welcomes to dailystandups, my new home on the internet.

Obviously I don’t actually live here, I was speaking figuratively.  I’m not Tron or nothing.   Although there were some damn hot women in exceptionally uncomfortable looking rubber catsuits in Tron Legacy.

So, if Tron’s not lobbing virtual frisbees or hurtling round on overweight lightcyles, he’s probably amusing himself with them.  So, not a bad life really, Mr Tron.

Actually, Tron’s probably his first name. They never really covered whether he had a surname.  I like to think it would be something really mundane and commonplace like, say, Jones, Smith or Thompson.   Tron Thompson sounds quite cool actually.  Jones and Smith sound rubbish.

Anyway – back to the blog.    I’m a standup comedian and, possibly as a result of that, have a massive interest and passion for standup comedy.

It’s all over the bloody place in the UK at the minute.  People have gone standup crazy.    So, on the one hand you could argue that, because it’s already being heavily promoted, there probably isn’t a need for me to put together a daily blog with videos of standup comedians from around the world.  And beyond, as the tagline says.

But I’d argue that case for two reasons – firstly, laughter is genuinely the best medicine and should be spread around to make things better than they currently are.  Fact

Secondly, I don’t care whether anybody else thinks it’s a good idea or not, I’m gonna do it anyway.  And, besides I’ve started it now so you can’t stop me.   GO ON, TRY, I DARE YA!!!!

So – thanks for visiting.  I’ll be bunging videos and stuff up soon.

Keep laughing!!!!!

But not at deeply inappropriate moments, that could make things worse.
